LET US OPEN THE DOOR OF OUR HEARTS TO JESUS

"Mary wrapped the Infant Jesus in swaddling cloths and placed him in a manger because there was no guest room available for them."(Luke chapter 2, verse 7).

One of the most astounding details about the first Christmas is undoubtedly the image of the child Jesus lying in the manger. Jesus, the Son of God the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth, the Lord of the entire universe, was laid in a manger, in the midst of animals, just because there was no place in the inn, there was no guest room available for Mary and Joseph who had travelled to Bethlehem for the universal census.

Why was there no place for them in the inn?

Bethlehem was then overcrowded with lots of people who, like the parents of Jesus, had to return to their hometown to abide by the census decree. Every guest house in the small town was filled with returnees.

Today too, the Bethlehems of our hearts are overcrowded with so many worldly issues. The Bethlehems of our minds are overloaded with myriads of material concerns. Our souls are overwhelmed with various worries and fears. We are so overcrowded with the noise prevailing around us that we have no place for the Lord in our lives.

This Christmas too, the Emmanuel is coming. God wants to be with us. He is coming to seek for those who are lost. Let us open the doors of our hearts to welcome Him. Jesus the Good Shepherd is coming to heal the sick. Let us open the inns of our hearts and minds for Him. Jesus is coming to redeem us from the slavery of sin and ungodliness. Let us find place for Him in the house of our souls.

We can do so by allowing, everyday, much space for prayer in our lives. We can open our hearts to God through moments of silence and meditation. Welcoming Jesus is first and foremost loving the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our mind, with all our soul and with all our strength. Opening the gate to the Lord is loving and serving our neighbor. It is also serving the Church by taking an active part in all its activities.

That will be the best way to celebrate the Nativity of Christ.

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all,
Father Emmanuel.

  • Sharing God’s Gifts is an annual appeal in support of our Archdiocesan pastoral services. It is the realization that together we can accomplish much more than is possible as individual parishes. Catholics live out their faith’s spirit in support of our youth, catechism, missions, and institutions. We are working to ensure that the sacrifices of past generations are built upon for the benefit of the future. Sharing God’s Gifts a tangible commitment of our support for the Church’s proud tradition of social justice and concern for the vulnerable.

  • After depleting our savings and taking out a loan for the new roof, we are planning for the future and will continue to save specifically for the next building project.

Our boiler is on it’s last leg and will need to be replaced in the very near future.

Envelopes labelled Building Fund are located at either entrance of the church.

  • Non-perishable food items and clothing will be collected throughout Advent and donated to the Missionaries of Charity.

  • OLV Parish and School participate annually in the 40 Tins for Lent collection. All food/clothes will be donated to the Missionaries of Charity for their soup kitchen and giveaway to those in need. Please bring donations to the Church each week. Bins are at both entrances.

Although Lent may be over (or hasn’t started yet), we will leave the bins at the back for any one who wishes to continue to donate.

  • Envelopes are at the back of the church. Make sure to indicate what it is for and your envelope number. If you do not know, write you name and address on it so we can look you up. Not a Parishioner? Sign up here.

You may also make a donation through the Archdiocese Website (include what parish your are from), App (Apple/Android).

Everyone can participate no matter how big or small the donation.
